Back in January, we boarded a plane from Singapore bound for Taipei to carry on our adventure in Asia. Prior to arriving in Taiwan, we did not know much about the island, but we planned a month-long stay here which was actually our longest stay in one country this was because we agreed to volunteer as English teachers in a school in Lukang well 3 schools in the area. Most people seem to miss Taiwan out on their routes through Asia.
We took a journey around Taiwan, we started in Taipei and ended in Taipei using trains and buses and also some friendly locals who gave us lifts. Getting around Taipei is easy with Uber and the MRT but while we were there it rained every day. Outside of the capital Uber did not exist, so we relied on buses and a taxi app which took out the problems of pronouncing the street names.
Taipei- Hulaien- Taintung- Tainan- Lukang- Taipei
In conclusion Taiwan was awesome we did not know what to expect but in some ways that is the best way to enter a country as we left with great memories and it is on our list to experience the island in warmer climates, the wintery chill was not as bad as the UK but for us and our lack of clothes it was pretty chilly.
Our Recommendation is GO to Taiwan and explore this beautiful island it has so much to offer with amazing landscapes, such as lakes although Sun Moon Lake was a little too foggy when we ventured there. The mountains are beautiful with many temples dotted around. The food is tasty especially in Hualien, try some of the aboriginal dishes or traditional Taiwanese food, we put on weight after Taiwan. Plus what makes the place even more amazing is the incredible hospitality of the Taiwanese people, we will forever remember the people and how they made us feel incredibly welcome.
